Bright Tomorrow

So I took this picture at Hannah's house. These are her hands and jeans. I did NOT mean for this to be Twilighty so don't say that. It is just a cool pic I think. The hands are dark but thats how I like it. Way contrasty. Because it is like the dirty hands and jeans and poor kid, but then a bright rose that is sort of wilted which makes it that much better. I like that white very white being the only bright part because that is the hope. That is the BRIGHT TOMORROW!! And I'm reshooting this image for assignment 5 so hopefully Slade will like it better.

10 things I would rather be doing (that I stole from Estie)

I love blogging and I don't have anything else to do since Slade isn't here and we are supposed to be having a workday and Mr. Patteson actually thinks we are working. Ha what a joke. So in case you were wondering these are the top 10 things I would rather be doing. (Estie was doing this and so I'm copying her because I thought it was a good idea and I'm bored.
1.Sleeping
2. Watching TV or movies
3. Eating
4. Sitting at home
5. Getting things done (like school)
6. Snowboarding
7. Sitting in front of a fire reading annd drinking hot chocolate
8. Hanging out with my friends
9. Sitting in a hot tub
10. Taking pictures or having something to work on

Portraits Revisited

So I must've spaced out or not been paying attention or missed a day or something. I don't know. But I didn't know that we were supposed to put this stuff on here so here it goes. I'm too lazy to put it all the way down on the portraits thing and this gets seen more anyway.
1.What worked: Close up on faces that had a cool angle and told a story and gave a little about the character of the person.
2. What didn't work: Busy backgrounds, person being busy and not paying attention when you were taking pictures.
3. Cry: I never did although I came close when I kept reshooting and they weren't getting any better.
4. Laugh: Hannah being the satelite receving child and her teal nose :)
5. Smile: When I got the good profile of my sister and the close up of Hannah.
6. Bawl: I didn't! Good for me! I must be getting better.
7. Smirk: I don't really smirk in photo but I suppose when I got some good pictures of Hannah and realized everything was going to be on time.
8. Swear and Cuss: When my sister kept moving and I couldn't get any good ones and they were all soft and she was getting sick of posing and the light was going down and when I procrastinating and then realized I really needed pictures.

Walker Evans' Portraits

So since we just finished the portrait assignment I thought I would post some portraits by Walker Evans. He is one of my favorite famous photographers. I like the one on top because its close like we've been working on. The girl looks tough and like she works hard but then there seems to be a little smirk on her face. I like that because it seems like she can still have fun and enjoys like even though she might be poor and have to work all the time. It seems like she doesn't need anybody. She is self-sufficient. I like the second one too. Even though its farther away it still gives you a story. It shows you that they live in a log cabin type thing and have a rocking chair. I really like how it shows this and they aren't ashamed at all of where they live. They belong there and love it. I like the last one because even though its far away again it still shows you a lot about them. The whole family seems to really get along and love one another and feel comfortable around the others. Even if they don't give gifts because they are poor, they all still know that they love each other and would do anything for them. They all work together and know each other really well. So I like these pictures. I also think that I like portraits more in black and white. I think they give the person more character and you aren't seduced by color and you can just focus on the person. It makes the shooting and retouching stuff harder because you can't just like it because of the color. The black and white makes the rest of the picture more important.

Cloud

So I saw a cloud today!! It was great!! It was right above the soccer field and really low and close. Dawson touched it and it was great! I heart clouds!! It was not smoke either!!

Assignment #4 Portraits

This is my sister. She is looking right into a lamp, which hurt her eyes, but I really like this picture. It's memorable.

I like getting close on the face which kinda freaked my sister out when I touched her face with the camera but I like how the close ups turn out better then most full body shots.

So this picture was very underexposed and kind of blurry. I really liked it though and was sad that it wasn't properly exposed and focused. So I was playing with it and Slade liked it and it turned out like that.

I had a hard time making silhouettes but I like this one. I don't like that the background has so much stuff. I wish it was simpler but I still like this.

I think this is a little gray but I like the composition. The hand was very bright because a bunch of light was hitting right there but I burned it and it looks better. However, burning that much makes it very gray and kind of gross but I still like this. Not good enough for a print but good enough for a blog I think.

This was very dark when I was taking it so it was difficult to get it in focus and enough light. So, I just a flashlight. This didn't work great because you can see the bright spot where the flashlight was. I wish I had moved the flashlight around more so that the whole picture was lighter and that spot wasn't soo bright. But I do like what she's doing with her hands but still letting her eye see through.

So at first I was excited for this assignment but then when I thought about shooting I had difficulties. I couldn't find the right feel and stuff like that. But then after I reshot like 3 times I started to get the hang of it. Then when I shot with Hannah I got a lot of good ones. So now I love this assignment and am sad that its over. But thats ohkay. I liked this one a lot more than the last one so I'm hoping they just get better from here. I learned that simple backgrounds are really good because then you can just focus on whatever you are really taking the picture of. Black backgrounds are the best I think because if its white then you don't want it to be pure white so it ends up being gray just like every other color except black. The different types of light also make a huge difference. Most of these images had different light. You can tell that some had very bright light while others just had soft light. Bracketing is harder with people since they don't like to stay still, but it really helps. Also I really need to get a tripod because I used Hannah's and I loved it. Anyway I really liked this assignment and like most of my pictures.

Hannah's Eyes

Gotta love this one. Hannah's big eyes are so pretty! This was originally way underexposed and so I was just playing around with it. Then Slade liked it so I made it like this.
